Yesterday I posted a gallery of pictures I took at the Bronx Zoo. It included two close-ups of flamingos that I thought were a little unusual so I planned to repost them today to point out the fact that some of the birds had artificial legs. Except when I delved in a little further it looked to me like all of the birds in all of the flamingo photos had the same artificial limbs. That seemed strange … but no, it was just wrong. Turns out these are chilean flamingos that have green legs and bright red knee joints and feet. The plastic ring I saw actually is an ID number tag, not part of a prosthetic device. Oh well, live and learn I guess. Take a look at the legs below and tell me they don’t look artificial.
