Passaic Headwater
This pristine stream is near the upper end of the Passaic River flowing through Basking Ridge NJ. The source in Mendham flows into the remnant of a glacial lake which has devolved into the Great Swamp in Somerset County and wetlands through its central corridor.. The river meanders its way through and touches on Somerset, Union, Essex, Passaic and Bergen Counties to eventually empty into Newark Bay and the Hudson River. The lower Passaic has been heavily damaged by industrialization and pollution for more than a century but is slowly recovering through the efforts of both private and public resources. Cold Winter Morning
Temperature in the teens with a heavy overcast shielding the sun at its edge. A band of bright blue sky on the horizon with jet contrails enhancing the light and throwing the tree line at the edge of an open field into silhouette. The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, Millington NJ.

Barn Side Christmas
This shot is very likely the last of the 2011 holiday season. I was out early this morning roaming the edge of the Great Swamp in Millington NJ where I found this old barn at the side of the road. Panasonic GF-1, 14-45 zoom at f5.6, 1/125, ISO400.
