All In

by Ed Collyer

Where is this? Three very fussy, gas-lite lamps, a dry fountain topped by a golden pinnicle and landscaped in colorful plantings, a city hall of modest proportions in a classic style, a municipal skyscrapper that looks like it could have played a role in “Ghost Busters” (but it didn’t).  Could it be Paris, Brussels, Budapest? … Nope, its City Hall Park in Lower Manhattan, NYC.

The population of Manhattan swells to over four million people on a typical work day.  Here’s a small sample from my short visit last week.  Click on a “thumb”  to view in slideshow mode.

by Ed Collyer

We’re starting a new feature today called Adam’s iPhone Adventures. Guest blogger Adam Collyer, best known as an author on Penn State Sports Blog  Black Shoe Diaries (BSD) will contribute his best iPhone shots from his travels around the town including NYC, Hoboken and wherever else life takes him.  The shot above, nearly wiped out by extensive pyro efex, was taken at a concert this week at Manhattan’s Best Buy Theater. I can almost hear the music :-) .

Old Meets New

by Ed Collyer

I took a ride into lower Manhattan this morning and spent a couple of hours roaming the streets with my GF1 taking in the “urban vibe”.  This shot is from Park Row and Beekman Street of the Potter Building across from City Hall Park. The skyscraper in the background is Gehry Downtown – Beekman Tower.

Today’s Photos

by Ed Collyer

We attended the NYC Law Department 2011 Annual Awards Ceremony last night as invited guests of one of the winners …none other than son Adam.  Adam was selected as “Rookie of the Year”  for “working at a consistently high level” in his first year. I won’t go into all of the details but nevertheless we are all very proud of the young lawyer.

The guest speaker for the evening was NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg (below).
