Summer Palace - Sintra

The Royal Summer Palace, used for six centuries by Portuguese  kings, sits in the center of the town of Sintra about half way up the mountainside.  The village is a maze of winding lanes and streets climbing the side of the mountain filled with shops, restaurants and colorful houses and buildings of all descriptions, none seeming to be less than 500 years old.  The town is a worthy example of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
