The new Freedom Tower is very much in the news today as it has topped out at 1776 feet with the completion of its roof-top spire. This shot shows the tower under construction last August when we visited the 911 Memorial near its base. I had this image at hand because I used it to test the new “upright” feature in the Beta version of Lightroom 5 that I recently installed. Among other things it has the capability to straighten vertical lines in a photo like this that was obviously shot from ground level. The original had a lot more foreground that included part of the memorial waterfall. That part was cropped out by all the software contortions needed to straighten the buildings but I think the result is still an interesting view of the skyscraper world that is lower Manhattan.
